Watercolor Field Trips
Explore with a New Perspective
Enjoy a three-week creative series, held one day per week on consecutive Wednesdays. Each three-week Roaming Studio series begins with a studio session at the Almira Historical Society’s open-air pavilion. During this first gathering, we’ll assemble our watercolor painting kits, become familiar with our materials, and practice a few foundational watercolor techniques. This relaxed studio time prepares us for the following two weeks of field sessions, when we’ll travel together to beautiful northern Michigan locations to paint, observe, and gather inspiration from the landscape.
Each field session begins at 10 AM and unfolds from there. On field trip days, we’ll travel together in Atlas, my stylish vintage VW bus, to our painting location, where we’ll spend about three hours painting in the open air. After our painting session, we leave room for a spontaneous side quest—perhaps a swim, a farm stand stop, or a cool drink at a nearby winery—before ending our day at around 3 PM.
